Over the course of eleven months, the Pastor Nominating Committee met weekly to pray, plan, and seek God’s voice in the search for the next pastor of MVPC.
They considered their role in this process as an honor and a privilege, a responsibility not to be taken lightly. They read and evaluated over one hundred Pastor Information Forms, listened to many sermons, and talked with many references. They interviewed candidates via Skype and in person. The final candidate selection process included bringing 2 candidates and their families here for a weekend in early October to have an opportunity for more personal contact and detailed discussions. After prayerful evaluation and seeking discernment, we felt affirmed that God directed us to nominate
Reverend Daniel James Holland
as the next Pastor to lead MVPC. Pastor Dan and his wife Rebecca have four children; Natalie, Micheala, Ben and baby Jonathan.
Pastor Dan received his B.S. in Biology at the University of Washington and Master of Divinity and Diploma in the Art of Spiritual Direction at San Francisco Theological Seminary, San Anselmo, CA. He has attended seminars, conferences and completed independent studies in Evangelism, Transforming Congregations, Stephen Ministry Pastoral Care Training, Godly Play Children’s Ministry, Youth Ministry and Spirituality, and LOGOS Family Ministry. In addition he has volunteered in Youth Ministry, and on Children, Youth and Family Teams. He was a Chaplain Intern at San Francisco Veteran Affairs Medical Center. He and Rebecca traveled to meet with religious and spiritual leaders working for peace and justice in the Middle East. In connection with University Presbyterian Church, Seattle, Dan taught fourth grade students, coached baseball and traveled to Trinidad, Bolivia to lead summer camps in Spanish.
Pastor Dan was introduced to the congregation and delivered the message on November 13, 2011. Immediately following the service, a congregational meeting was held to vote acceptance of our nomination and on the Terms of Call. Dan was officially installed as Pastor of MVPC on March 18, 2012.
