Caring for Caregivers

Caregiver Outreach Ministry

Christ calls us to care for one another. It is especially important that we care for caregivers and those they are caring for.

The MVPC Care Team began in 2007 to build a supportive program for those who are facing care situations; both caregivers and those who must count on others to care for them. Both are difficult challenges.

Our goal is to encourage and nurture through fellowship, education, and a lot of laughter and hugs.

What we are NOT – we are not a support group, though we do support each other. And, we do not provide direct care for those who need assistance. We do assist caregivers in finding the help they need, and have provided to the church office a resource that gives a complete list of the many services available to families in our area.

Our Care Team is not restricted to members of MVPC. Anyone in the community who has a desire to serve by providing loving support to those facing a journey of care is invited to be part of our team.

There are several opportunities at MVPC to participate in reaching out to those in care situations.

The Care Team – an opportunity to learn – to nurture caregivers – to be part of a loving, supportive small group of caring individuals.

Precious Memories

It's such an easy thing to do to – an easy way to relax, lower your blood pressure, reduce your wrinkles, fill your heart with joy, smile, and more. Sitting in front of the fireplace on a chilly Sunday afternoon, singing wonderful songs of faith – the songs that many of us grew up with – unstructured and quiet… a wonderful way to nurture our spirits. I'm sure there will be lots of requests for the Christmas carols that we never get to sing often enough.

Precious Memories is always held on the first Sunday of the month.

Tea at 2:00 All caregivers – and the ones they care for if they are able to attend – are invited to this afternoon tea – lots of good tea and treats. This is open to anyone in the community. If you have a neighbor or friend who is a caregiver, invite them to come – and to make it easier for them, come with them. This is a purely social time to let the cares of the world fall away for a short time. There's always laughter and some very interesting conversations.

Tea at 2: 00 is always the last Wednesday of the month, unless interrupted by a holiday or snow.

Communion at Where the Heart Is

As part of our Care Ministries, the Care Team is now providing a communion service once a month to residents at Where the Heart Is. This is a meaningful service – one long sought by protestant residents who have had no opportunity for communion for a very long time.
