Precious Memories
Often those who are in the early stages of dementia -- or those with other difficult diseases to manage, find a regular church worship service too difficult, but they enjoy singing the old familiar hymns and choruses of their youth. There are many elderly too who do not have the opportunity to sing these old beloved songs. So, a new program has been added to our Care Ministry...a time of singing and worship geared to meet the needs of those for whom a long, regular service is sometimes too difficult.
We gather in the Fireside Room at MVPC to sing the old familiar hymns and have the opportunity to hear familiar Bible passages and pray the Lord's Prayer together. It will be a time (about an hour) of joyful praise. Caregivers are invited to bring the one in their care to join in. Family members are invited to bring their loved ones who reside in care homes to come. Care homes are invited to bring residents who are able to come for this comfortable time of worship.
This will be a time reminiscent of the days when families used to gather in the parlor on Sunday afternoon to enjoy singing together. Anyone who loves singing the old hymns is welcome to join us "in the parlor."
